DivePhotoGuide and Wetpixel beget equipped the winning photos and movies in the 2021 model of the DPG/Wetpixel Masters Underwater Imaging Competition.
The competition invited submissions to five image categories and a video class, with entries evaluated by a panel of substitute consultants and award-winning photographers, including: Florian Fischer, Imran Ahmad, Jennifer Hayes, Mike Bartick and Stephen Frink.
This yr, Martin Broen bought the “Better of Account for” prize for his 1st plot in the Unlit and White class. The image, a preserve of the pristine stalactites and stalagmites in a Mexican cenote, earned Broen the tip cash prize of US$1,000 (~€886).
The 1st plot winners in the opposite categories were Julian Hsu (Macro Primitive), Sander van der Heijden (Macro Unrestricted), Enrico Somogyi (Huge Perspective Primitive), Tom Shlesinger (Huge Perspective Unrestricted) and Alex del Olmo (Video).
Each of them bought a cash prize of $250 (~€221).
In a joint commentary, DPG Editor-in-Chief Joseph Tepper and Wetpixel Publisher Adam Hanlon acknowledged:
“All every other time, the DPG/Wetpixel Masters competition has demonstrated the unbelievable talent that exists in our group of underwater shooters. As many of us proceed to face lockdowns and shuttle restrictions, these photos and movies remind us of the riches below the sea and why we must preserve our collective passion to defend the oceans we care for.”
The organizers also acknowledged 15 percent of entry proceeds will as soon as again be donated to marine conservation efforts.
